Javier Ordóñez is a Peruvian and Italian American filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist based in Maryland, working between the DMV and Baltimore. Born and raised in PG and Howard County, he grew up immersed in creativity as a means of expression, reflection, and survival.

As a first-generation Latino storyteller, he centers his work on intimate, character-driven stories rooted in lived experience. Raised by a single mother with the support of his grandmother, he also experienced life within blended family structures through stepfathers, a stepsister, and two half-brothers. These experiences shaped his understanding of family, masculinity, identity, and belonging within immigrant and working-class communities, often absent from mainstream narratives.

Through film, Javier aims to preserve personal histories and contribute to a broader cultural conversation about who gets to be seen, heard, and remembered. His practice is grounded in vulnerability, authenticity, and community care, with a deep commitment to creating work that helps people feel less alone.

Javier graduated from the University of Maryland in 2023 with a BA degree in Graphic Design and Film Studies. He recently earned his MFA in Filmmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He is also the co-founder of Heavy Feather Productions, a minority-owned production company dedicated to community-centered storytelling and underrepresented voices.
